NGC 7609 (Arp 150)

About image

The Hickson Compact Group 95 (HCG 95) is a group of four galaxies in Pegasus constellation.

Its brightest member is the galaxy NGC 7609 (HGC 95A), a large elliptical galaxy located 554 million light years away from Earth. It is catalogued also as Arp 150 because it is in evident interaction with the galaxy HGC 95C: in the image it is visible a “bridge” that connects the two galaxies, but also some faint tidal tails due to the strong gravitational interaction.

On the bottom side of the group it is visible the galaxy HGC95B, which is in reality not phisically connected to the group, being nearer to us. In the right top side of the group is visible HGC 95D, s apirale galaxy seen edge-on. Many oher faint and remote galaxies are visible in the field.

The image is a consistent crop of the original image, because these galaxies are really small.

Seeing during acquisition of L frames was only “discrete” for my location in the Alps.
