NGC 6888, Crescent Nebula
About image
NGC 6888, known also Crescent Nebula, is visible in Cygnus constellation.
The nebula is generated by the massive Wolf-Rayet star (HD 192163), which is located inside it; the material expelled by the star interacted with the dense interstellar medium surrounding it creating a sort of shell around the star.
In the past it was also thought that it was a supernova remnant, whose progenitor star was part of the HD 192163 system.
The nebula extends into space for a size of about 16 light years and has a distance from Earth about 4700 light years.
