About image

NGC 40 is a planetary nebula in Cepheus constellation, with apparent dimension 38”x35” and magnitude 12.3: its distance from Earth is about 11500 light years.
Due to its characteristic shape, it is also called “bow tie nebula” or “papillon nebula”: reason of this shape is the strong stellar wind from the hot central star which interacts with the nebula, deforming it until it assumes an irregular shape.
