M 95

About image
Messier 95 is a barred spiral galaxy in Leo constellation: located at about 33 million light years, it has a real diameter of 75000 light years.
This galaxy has a very evident central bar, with prominent ansae at the end and dust structures: two well defined spiral arms are visible at the edges of the bar.
The nucleus is very bright and shows a ring shaped structure with HII regions (anyway overexposed in this image).
The star formation rate in the nucleus is higher than in the disk: for this reason, M95 is known as a nuclear starburst galaxy.
