About image

IC 342 is a spiral galaxy in Camelopardalis constellation.
It is located near the galactic plane, so its light is heavily adsorbed by the dust and gas of our Galaxy: this explains why this galaxy appears quite faint and with a reddenish color.
Indeed, it was discovered only in 1890 and it is no coincidence that it is also known as “the hidden galaxy”.
The galaxy has remarkable dimensions of 21',4 × 20',9, so considering its distance of 10 million light years we have that the real diameter is 115000 light years, considering the farthest HII regions.
